Technology and How it Impacts Our Lives.
Although technology and I do not always get along, technology plays a huge part in our everyday lives. I struggle with technology, because it seems to actively change and further develop quite often, and it seems as if I can never catch up with the constant changes. I wish I had a more developed understanding of technology, because I genuinely believe it is an important skill to have in today's society.
I believe that technology is continuing to evolve and is beginning to impact the lives of individuals more and more everyday. I do not believe that technology is necessarily a bad thing, in moderation, it will continue to benefit the development of the future. Because the influence of technology, cures for diseases are being developed and connections are becoming easy to create worldwide. Technology has definitely impacted how we learn, and how people can more easily access learning tools.
In the video that I watched where both adults and children discuss what they do for fun as an adolescent, I found the differences between the generations really interesting. The adults were reminiscing on the fun outdoor activities that they did as children, while the younger generation talked about how their lives practically revolve around technology. I found myself relating to both of the childhoods that they referred to. As a young child I mostly used the outdoors as a source of entertainment, but as I grew up I used social media as my entertainment outlet. This particular video shows how technology has grown to be a major part of people's lives. In the video where technology hijacks the family dinner, this video also shows that technology is interfering with face to face quality time, that I believe is a crucial part to having a full heart.
In conclusion, technology can create new opportunities that maybe were not available before the evolution of technology. Technology can discover cures for things that may not have been discovered before technology helped find a cure. Technology will allow more people to be positively impacted. On the other hand, technology needs to be monitored and used within reason, because the overuse of technology can be harmful to the well being of the newer generation.

I think people can be amazed with how much I do not use technology but it is very essential today. I don't get along with it because I don't like what it can do to someone who doesn't have that self control. I do believe it is changing fast than we can catch up. I do recognize technology can help with cures but I do strongly believe there should be a limit. The video of the 3 generations was not new because I have seen how children today have changed. My childhood was filled with outside adventures. There were friends across the street and we would not go inside until late night. The first cell phone I got was when I was a senior in high school. My parents and older brother had wanted to buy me one when I was younger, but I didn't want it. I agree with your thoughts about these articles and you did a great job in pointing out the important areas.
ReplyDeleteGreat post! I agree with you that technology can create new opportunities and benefit the world in so many areas, but it has to have limitations and boundaries. Without either, technology is taking over and being over used and abused to a sense. As a child I was one that spent my days outdoors. I absolutely loved being outside as I still do. I have two children of my own and they would pick getting to play outside over playing video games inside. But, with that I know they would only pick outdoors because of how they have been raised. Many children their age would pick to sit inside with some source of technology. The video about hijacking the dinner table didn't shock me at all because I have personally seen people react the same way when they didn't have technology. I have seen people act like the world was coming to an end when their phones died while away from home. With all of this technology has benefited the world in a lot of ways, especially the medicine side. Without technology cures wouldn't have been found like you said, diagnosis wouldn't be as easy to determine, medicines wouldn't be as advanced, and so much more. Technology is meant to help and benefit the world, not replace and take over certain things such as doing away with nature.
ReplyDeleteVery well said. Technology is a great thing and a very important part of our lives. I to was related to both the child and parents in that video, but I will say I didn't have a phone till I was a sophomore in high school so the outdoors stayed a big part of my childhood until later into high school. I can also say that me and technology are not the best of friends, I do like my phone but anything on a computer is way over my head. I see that technology is not going anywhere and also becoming a big part in teaching, so I see that me and technology will have to become a little closer than I may like.
ReplyDeleteI understand when you said that you don't get along with technology--I feel the same way as technology has evolved in the fast pace and it seems I am always lagging behind---but, I realize I will just move backward if I refuse to learn it. So, I try my best to embrace and learn the new technique with assistance from others!
